Windy Wanderers, (also known as the)

Travelling Old Farts

Welcome to the adventures of Mark and Michele,
from Sydney and Windellama in New South Wales, Australia, travelling the island continent.

I’m Michele, and Sydney Australia is my hometown. Mark is from Odessa, Ukraine and came with his family to Sydney over 50 years ago. We are the Windy Wanderers, or as our son says, the Travelling Old Farts. We have 2 grown up children who have moved out to their own places. That makes us empty nesters. Yay!!

When we first decided to travel around Australia as our next big adventure, we were looking for information that could help us prepare for such a trip but got overwhelmed with useful and useless information and conflicting advice.

There were inconsistencies of information in Google, older sites from other travel bloggers that were no longer relevant or didn’t go into too many details about their preparation and planning, and lots of individual sites about all the different places, equipment, and options for travelling around. There didn’t seem to be anything that brought everything together to describe the full journey, from the initial idea, through the planning and prep, and then the actual journey and all the challenges and wonders.

We hope that our site provides all those people who have a dream to travel around our amazing country, with some references which will help them with their journey and make everyone’s experience even better!

It’s been a while since the end of the big trip in our first motorhome, Katya. We had planned a couple of years break from travelling, to fix up our property and spend time at home, but this turned into more than 4 years, due to many things happening that prevented us from getting away earlier. We are ready to go back out there, with our new motorhome, Lorikeet. She will take us to more places around Australia and we’ll keep this website up-to-date as we go.

Our Lists

Before going on a big trip, there is a lot to do. These lists will help with the preparation, packing and planning. They have been updated as at May 2025, so if you have these already it might be worth having another look.
